Consultation Eyebrows Cosmetic Tattoo

Semi-Permanent Makeup, also called Microblading, Micropigmentation, or Cosmetic Tattooing, is the process of putting pigment beneath the surface of the skin.

All of us, cosmetic tattoo artists, have our own style and signature technique. In this article, I will explain what I use and how it works.

I put the pigment into the bottom layer of the epidermis. About 0.05-0.2mm deep.

For Eyebrows I use certified, FDA approved hybrid semi-permanent pigments. Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. The hybrid pigments have a different chemical composition than tattoo ink and are a blend of minerals and organic pigments.

These pigments have great quality and stability – they never change the shade of the colour. It means that when we use a brown colour in the future it will never turn blue, gray, red, purple, green, yellow etc. The pigment just fades as a brownish shade and disappears over time (2-5 years).

Now about different methods for eyebrow tattooing.

Both of these methods are used to create hair strokes and shading effect.

For eyebrow SPM I use a machine and professional, sterile Kwadrone needles

I don’t do Microblading (I will explain what Microblading is later).

My signature technique is soft, watercolour shading.

The Shading method works on all skin types. It gives a soft shaded brow pencil look. Once healed, it is soft and natural-looking. Shading gives great definition and depth to the brows. It can last from two to five years.

The retention depends on a number of factors, including skin type, age, lifestyle, health condition, sun exposure, etc.

On the day of the procedure, we will have a consultation and discuss your desired brows. Following the consultation, I will begin drawing the shape of your brows to build a frame, so that the eyebrows look even. I always follow the natural shape of the brow to enhance the natural beauty of you.  We will work together for the shaping, styling and colour selection of your brows. You will have the opportunity to see the shape and colour before doing any actual tattoo work. Once all is approved, we proceed with shading of the brows.

The appointment usually takes approximately 1 to 2 hours.

How many different colours are offered?
I use a couple of brands for shading that I love. At times, I also mix colours to best match the client’s desire, skin tone and brow colour.

Does it hurt?
No! It’s less sensitive than eyebrow plucking. A medical-grade topical anaesthetic will be used for numbing during the procedure to make you feel comfortable and pain-free.

Immediately following the procedure, your brows will appear darker and bolder. This is the initial healing process and it can last up to a week or a little longer. During the second week, you can expect some flaking of the skin. It is very important not to pick or peel at the dry skin as you need to allow the flaky skin to come off naturally on its own to prevent premature pigment loss. The flaking period varies from person to person. Generally, all flaky skin are shed approximately by the end of the second week. Once the dry skin have fallen off, the brows will appear softer and lighter. The complete healing process takes about four weeks at which time the true colour and density of the brows are clearly revealed. During the follow-up touch-up, adjustments can be made.

What is the aftercare like?
It is essentially relaxing and do nothing! For best-healed results, the client should avoid working out, sweating, any makeup around the brows for at least two weeks. Most importantly, it is important not to pick at the flaking/dry skin. The dry skin need to shed naturally. It is also recommended to stay out of heavy sun exposure and avoid any facial treatments throughout the healing process. After the procedure, the client will be given an aftercare ointment to be applied two to three times a day after washing the treated area. It is very important to keep your newly shaded brows clean.

The follow-up touch-up is usually within 4-8 weeks and the cost is included with the initial session**. During the touch-up, we can add more definition and density and make other adjustments as necessary.

**Being offered a free touch-up doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of your new tattoo. If it’s clear you haven’t been trying to take care of your fresh SPM, a tattoo artist might not touch it up for you.

Some information about Microblading
What is it? Microblading is making hairlines with a blade that is attached to a handtool, which looks like a pen. The pigment is then put into the microscars.

I do not do Microblading because it causes permanent microscars, which is not safe for the skin. After the healing the pigment becomes blurry and patchy, as the skin can’t keep the thin lines.
